Cinco de Mayo
Mrs. Edith Cerda tells her students about gorditas, made with maiz, and about her mother and grandmother who made these for the family. All the while the stacatto "pat pat pat" can be heard as she swiftly pats the masa into a round flat shape, then places them on the griddle in front of the children. Sam Houston Teachers in several grade levels celebrated the Mexican culture with their children, and engaged them in a "fiesta" which included many dishes from that culture.

Sam Houston Chess Team in Nashville
Library Media Month Read to Somebody Today
"Students have a vast view of the world and how they sustain in it. They are armed with devices which will lead them down any portal to the world at any given time Through those portals, they pick up information which shapes who they are becoming, and what they chose to internalize as part of their psyche. As library Media Specialists, we are now keepers of the portals,so to speak, not to keep anyone from entering the vast world of information, but to guide and educate our patrons about credible websites and inform them about bogus websites. It is ever more important for us to teach how to evaluate the massive amount of information found on the internet, and include digital citizenship in our lessons. My job description has changed, and is evolving daily. It is my personal goal to keep up, and learn along with my patrons so that I may be of some help and guidance. Together we will make a difference, one student at a time."
