     6th Grade Pre-Athletics

The 6th grade Pre-athletics classes are seasonal classes that cover sports that

coincide with sports being played at that particular time of the year.  Currently,
6th grade boys are covering football and 6th grade girls are covering volleyball.
Health lessons are incorporated in the class once a week. The main focus of
the pre-athletics program is to provide students with a preview of upcoming
UIL sports which they will be eligible to participate in next year.  The pre-athletic
classes teach values that include: sportsmanship, responsibility, and
leadership, participation within rules, performing under pressure, physical
    well-being and team work.

The pre-athletics program is an integral part of the total school educational program.
Physical education is a component of education that challenges students by
providing opportunities to attain the skills and knowledge to be physically
active as part of a healthy lifestyle.  Regular participation in physical activity
will allow students to develop a pattern of life-enhancing and self-rewarding
experiences that contribute to their potential to be healthy members of society.

The students have expressed that they enjoy the class because they are
experiencing activities that go beyond their experiences in a regular
    physical education class.

Coach Cavazos expresses that adding the pre-athletics class to the

current curriculum has been very beneficial and that students are
looking forward to being able to participate in UIL sports next year.

Playing sports at any level can be a key part of the school experience and

have an immense and lasting impact on a student’s life.
