In 2012-2013, HCISD launched Phase I of the Digital Classroom initiative. Also known as Cadre I, this select group of 20 teachers, along with their students, model a type of digital transformation in their classrooms on a daily basis. Each classroom is equipped with the tools needed to successfully create a digital platform and enhance the learning environment. Being apart of Cadre I gives teachers the opportunity to collaborate with peers and share examples of their own digital learning styles. Lesson plans incorporate a 21st Century learning experience for students by tying in technology and devices that each student is familiar with such as smartphones and educational networking. By doing this, it provides students with the necessary skills and techniques needed for future success.
At the beginning of the 2013-2014 school year, an additional 69 Digital Classrooms were added. With our BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) Initiative, Digital Classrooms, and the transformation of libraries to Information Literacy Centers, students now have multiple opportunities to learn and flourish using a variety of devices. HCISD will add additional Digital Classrooms each year as needed to support the transformation of learning in the classroom. HCISD currently has a total of 164 Digital Classrooms, including the Information Literacy Centers. The transformation of the instruction and enhancement of the 4 C's in each classroom is the focal point of our Digital Classroom Initiative.
