    Digital Classrooms:
We have 5 digital Classrooms which are composed of a digital Music classroom, Kinder,  3rd grade,  4th grade and a 5th grade classroom along with a digital ILC.  It has been very exciting to see our students play instruments via the iPads and to see children in Kinder create projects online utilizing apps such as Educreations Interactive Whiteboard in which students record their voices as they show and explain their work.  Our 3rd through 5th grade classrooms have taken their lessons to the next level by creating iPad lessons utilizing apps such as Aurasma, which brings a video to life by linking a student’s presentation or work to any object.  These apps make learning fun and creative.
    Chess Team:
Our chess team just completed it's 2nd year of existence and has achieved many accolades.   The Chess team is composed of 30 Kinder through 5th grade students.   They practice weekly in order to fulfill their committment of excellence through teamwork and hard work.  This past year they competed at Chess Nationals held in Dallas, Texas in May.  The team did exceptionally well.  In the K-3 under 800 division Dishman placed 25th and earned a trophy and National recognition. In the K-5 under 900 division Dishman placed 42nd and in the K-1 Championship division they placed 28th.  This year’s team is well underway preparing for upcoming Chess tournaments.
    Dishman's Nature / Outdoor Classroom:
Miss Pompa,  Kinder teacher, applied and was awarded the Lowe's Toolbox for Education grant in order to create an outdoor nature garden that will also have a seating area.  This nature garden will have a dual purpose and will also serve as an outdoor classroom. Our intent is to take learning outdoors and to make learning fun and exciting by providing students with a different avenue to learn.  This project is currently underway and will be revealed this school year.
    Dishman's College and Career Fair:
We have hosted a College and Career fair for the past 3 years.  It is never too early to plan for the future and we feel that it is critical to educate and have students at the elementary level begin to think about college and/or a career.  If we wait for our students to think about these things in high school then it may be too late.  We need to plant the seeds of education and goals early so that our students can remain focused throughout their educational careers.  Our College and Career Fair has always been very successful and serves as a wealth of knowledge and information for our students.  We invite many representatives from our local business community, as well as attorneys, Valley Baptist Medical Center and Harlingen Medical, Border Patrol, DPS and other areas of law enforcement.  In addition we have had community leaders such as, Judge Sally  Gonzalez, Mayor of Harlingen Chris Boswell and H.C.I.S.D.’s Superintendent of Schools Dr. Art Cavazos, along with college representatives from UTPA, TSTC and UTB.   Plans are underway for this year’s College and Career Fair.
    State Accountability:
Dishman teachers and staff have committed themselves to excellence via hardwork, dedication and passion.  Everything that we do is based on the premise of what is in the best interest of our students.  Dishman Elementary met the 2014 State of Texas Accountability Standards and received four distinctions.  Distinctions awarded were Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Top 25% Student Progress, Top 25% Percent Closing Performance Gaps and Postsecondary Readiness.  We are very proud of our students, teachers and Dishman community because these distinctions would not be possible without everyone working together.  Dishman - "Educating Future Leaders".
