• Through the Years Heading
KEYS Academy opened its doors in August of 1991, offering an alternative plan of study to qualifying students in the 7th through 12th grades.  KEYS was the first of its type in the Valley and was a direct result of the success of the District's night classes, in which students attended as an alternative to dropping out of school.  As a consequence of the high number of dropouts, an estimated 700 students in 1990, school officials searched for a way to provide an alternative to students who were not successful in the traditional school setting.  The instructional strategies that were employed under the new curriculum included self-paced individualized instruction, computer-assisted instruction, and small class sizes.  These strategies are still in place today as they have met with great success throughout KEYS Academy's 23 years in existence.
