RISING LEADERS GRADUATIONThe Rising Leaders Class XXI was honored at a graduation reception on Tuesday, April 22 at the HCISD Administration Boardroom. The Rising Leaders program identifies students who have displayed great potential for leadership and allows them to participate in a series of workshops aimed at further developing those leadership skills. Activities to commemorate the special day included newspaper print fashions, revamping glass jars, trash sculptures, birdbath and butterfly garden cleanup, sunshine s'mores, seashell mobiles, and a wildscape art project. Mrs. Trevino motivates and encourages her students to participate in events such as the RGV Birding Festival, PTA Reflections Contest, and RGV Livestock Show. Many of the students who have competed in these events throughout the years have been recognized for their artwork in city, regional, and even state levels. 5K WALK/RUN FOR CHILDRENOn Saturday, April 5th, community members of all ages participated in the Harlingen 5K Walk/Run for Children event to help give children a voice on the matter of child abuse. Our very own Brenda Saenz-Garcia, HCISD Teen Parenting Coordinator, partnered with Prevent Child Abuse Texas to organize the event. Mrs. Saenz-Garcia has also planned other activities at KEYS Academy throughout the month of April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. PTA REFLECTIONS STATE FINALIST - JUAN ROJASJuan Rojas was selected as a PTA Reflections Contest State Finalist by the Harlingen City Council PTA. Juan Rojas' art-piece, "Altamira Oriole" is advancing to the State competition. Special thanks to Art teacher, Mrs. Oneida Trevino, for encouraging students to participate in the contest. The volunteers helped set tables, served food and drinks, and even assisted with the clean-up! Thousands attended the event filled with music, entertainments, hot meals, and fellowship. The museum has fascinating exhibits where one can discover the rich heritage and blended culture found in the Rio Grande Valley between South Texas and Northeastern Mexico. Festivities included a Hispanic Heritage PowerPoint Presentation, Pin the Tail on the Burro, music, and a lot of delicious food.HCISD WELLNESS KICKOFF AND FUN RUN CHALLENGEStudents and staff cheered their hearts out at the Harlingen CISD Wellness Kickoff and Fun Run Challenge on September 23rd at Boggus Stadium.
