Mr. Torres is in his tenth year of teaching for the Harlingen Consolidated Independant School District. This is Mr. Torres' seventh year at Vela Middle School. His first three years were spent at Harlingen High School as the assistant choir director to Denise Pitcock.
Mr. Torres has performed in Ireland, Mexico, and throughout the United States with various ensembles not only as a singer but also as an instrumentalist.
In 2007 Mr. Torres made his operatic debut as Uberto in G.B. Pergolesi's La Serva Padrona.
Mr. Torres received a Masters in Music with a concentration in History & Literature (Musicology) from Texas State University in San Marcos, TX. His research and thesis revolve around choral practices in colonial Mexico.In May of 2015 Mr. Torres presented at the International Symposium on the Intersecting Practices in the Production of Sacred Music from the year 1450-1600, held in Austin at the University of Texas. In June he also presented at the Second National Symposium on American Music convened by the American Choral Directors Association and cosponsored by the University of Texas. In both instances Mr. Torres was the only presenter without a doctorate. In this capacity he oversees the Middle School Vocal Solo & Ensemble contest as well as All Region Choir Auditions.
