Author Michael Thaler visits Crockett Elementary

Author of the children's book series "The Black Lagoon" Michael Thaler visited Crockett Elementary on Monday, October 18. The author talked to the children about the importance of reading and shared some of his drawings with a group of first and second graders.

HCISD and Junior League Harlingen partner for Kids in Kitchen

The Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District will co-host an event that brings 100 fourth and fifth graders together to learn about the importance of exercise and healthy living. On Saturday, October 16 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., HCISD and the Junior League of Harlingen will host the one day event at Sam Houston Elementary. Students from four HCISD elementary schools — Crockett, Jefferson, Means and Sam Houston — will be participating in six different events that all deal with healthy living.

Crockett Dads' Lunch

Crockett Elementary students and their dads came together Wednesday for some lunch time fun. The school released its students to their dads and provided them to the Boys & Girls Club for lunch and games.

Elementary teacher brings Chinese to the classroom

Todd Childers stood at the front of a packed classroom on a Wednesday morning in September. The students gathered around him, sitting on the floor once all the desks were filled.Childers pointed to a series of words, one column written in English and another in Mandarin Chinese, on the whiteboard behind him, motioning with his hands like a conductor while he spoke to his students.
