Coakley choir host their annual fall concert. The students preformed different types of songs, including a Music Sight Reading Demonstration.
Sixth grade students at Coakley Middle School compete against each other in a game called Battleship, where they used a hands on type of learning with techonolgy and communcitating with one another.

Coakley Middle School Science teachers were having problems with student motivation.They had a lot of curriculum that students had never been exposed to before and there are only 45 minutes in a class period. In the spring of 2009 we started looking at ways to use technology to reach the kids, and knew we would probably need a grant to fund any kind of effort.Then one Friday morning, Connie Saenz emailed us a grant opportunity from Hewlett Packard. It was due on Monday so we all came together and created Coakley Middle School's My Greenspace: A Socially Organic Network, which was designed to raise environmental awareness while increasing student engagement through the use of technology.
On Saturday February 12th and Sunday February 13th, the Coakley Chess Team competed in the Texas State Chess Competition held in Houston, Texas at the Hilton America's Hotel. They held four rounds on Saturday the 12th and three rounds on Sunday the 3th.
Coakley Middle School captured its 35th consecutive University Interscholastic League (UIL) District Championship, capturing 29 first place awards during Friday and Saturday night’s academic competition. UIL academic meets for middle school students consist of 51 events in 19 categories including dictionary skills, math skills and impromptu speaking.
The 8th Grade Coakley Cougars faced the Vela Panthers this past weekend for their biggest and final game of the season on Oct. 30. Fans came out to support their teams and prove their loyalty. Coakley won the game, 14-0. It was a hard-fought battle that won’t soon be forgotten.
The Superintendent's Student Advisory Board met for the first time this school year on Tuesday at the Central Administration Building. The board, comprised of eighth grade students at Vela, Memorial, Vernon, Coakley and Gutierrez middle schools as well as seniors from Harlingen High School, Harlingen High School South, Early College High School and KEYS Academy.
KHGN Communication Services visited the middle school campuses of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District on the week of September 6 - September 10.
Energy efficient designs for electric-powered systems across three Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District campuses earned the district a $15,096 reward from AEP Texas.The AEP reward is just one example of how Harlingen CISD values energy efficiency and conservation. At the July 13 regular meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the “HCISD Energy Management and Conservation Plan.”
