The 12 percussion students banned together for an epic performance that earned them the title of Grand Champion for the middle school division at the Roma Gladiator Drumline Competition on September 22, 2012.
Members of the Vela Band Drumline have been practicing an operatic selection from "Carmen" in preparation for the 2012-13 Roma Gladiator Drumline Competition on September 22. They will compete with 15 to 20 middle and high schools from across the Rio Grande Valley. Should the drumline reach their goal, this year would be their third win in a row in their division.
As students were enjoying their last few days of summer vacation, teachers across the District were preparing for the start of the 2012-13 school year. Vela Middle School added something new to their beginning of the year preparations....
Recognizing the need to remind our middle school students and their families about the importance of fire safety – especially during the cold and holiday months – Moises V. The 2011-12 Vela Middle School Boys' Soccer Team has done it again and captured the District Championship.
The Vela Drumline earned three awards including 2011-12 "Best Battery" for the middle school division, 1st Place for the middle school and divison, and back to back overall "Outstanding Cymbal Line" for both the middle school and high school divisions.
The 8th Grade Coakley Cougars faced the Vela Panthers this past weekend for their biggest and final game of the season on October 30, 2011. Fans came out to support their teams and prove their loyalty. Coakley won the game, 14-0. It was a hard-fought battle that won’t soon be forgotten.
The Superintendent's Student Advisory Board met for the first time this school year on Tuesday at the Central Administration Building. The board, comprised of eighth grade students at Vela, Memorial, Vernon, Coakley and Gutierrez middle schools as well as seniors from Harlingen High School, Harlingen High School South, Early College High School and KEYS Academy.
KHGN Communication Services visited the middle school campuses of the Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District on the week of September 6-10, 2011.
