Lamar Elementary School raised $2,066 for Sea Turtle Inc, a South Padre Island a non-profit organization founded in 1999 to help rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured turtles. Students raised the money by holding a Change your Name Day, where they paid a dollar to have their name changed for the day. Some students brought in generous donations, earning the distinction of Superstar Sponsor.

Guest speaker for Lamar Elementary's Reading is Fundamental Book Distribution was Mr. Jaime Pena, Curator of Education at the Gladys Porter Zoo. Pena read "Rikki Tikki Tavi" from the Jungle Book by Rudyyard Kipling. He emphasized the importance of reading and achieving goals to the children.
Principals and administrators visited Lamar Elementary Wednesday afternoon for the Harlingen Learning Community (HLC) highlight walk. Attendees observed the campuses second annual Science Day, which it hosts along with Harlingen High School South.
