Coakley Middle School was named after Mary E. Coakley who donated the land for the school which was built in 1962. Mary E. Coakley was an elderly lady when she donated the land to the school district. She was very interested in the education of young people and decided to donate approximately 19.33 acres of land to build a school for that purpose.

The original building was built in 1961. Coakley Middle School campus is a single story building with double loaded corridors. The original building was dedicated in 1962. A vocational shop and two reading rooms were completed in 1973. Four additional classrooms and a boys dressing area were completed in 1973. A science wing was finished in early 1991. The facility was modified for additional space to accommodate cafeteria and band needs. In 1997, new additions included a new band hall, new gymnasium, new milling area and renovations done to the administrative offices.

Remodeling during 2001-2003 includes renovations to all buildings and the addition of six new classrooms, along with a new football field and track. This is an exciting time for Coakley Middle School! You will want to consider being a vital part of our educational community. |
