| The Vela Middle School National Junior Honor Society has been organized to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage citizenship. Middle school students in the 7th and 8th grades are eligible for membership after one full fall semester of attendance in the 7th or 8th grade at Vela Middle School. All students - members and non-members alike - are encouraged to exhibit good character and serve their community throughout the school year. 8th Grader NJHS members must submit community service hours by the Spring deadline to be eligible for recognition at the 8th Grade Promotion Ceremony for having successfully fulfilled their membership requirements. Membership Criteria All criterion listed below must be met before a student can be considered for membership in the National Junior Honor Society. The student: Note: Each student is evaluated on the basis of service, leadership, co-curricular/community service and character as submitted by the student on the Student Information Activity Form. Students with unexcused absences and any referral resulting in an assignment to In-School Suspension (ISS), Suspension, or Alternative Education Center (SAC/JJAP) are not eligible and are subject to dismissal from the organization if they are a current member. | |
