Congratulations to our students who submitted entries to compete in the Rio Grande Valley Birding Festival. Students were awarded ribbons and trophies for their entries during a Student Awards Program held on Sunday, November 11th. CONGRATULATIONS, KEYS ACADEMY!!! Students and staff cheered their hearts out throughout the one-mile walk and were honored with the 3rd Place trophy for MOST SPIRITED at the Harlingen CISD Wellness Kickoff on November 14, 2012 at Boggus Stadium. KEYS Academy's first newsletter of the year is here!
Students lined up at the polls to cast their ballots for the 2012 Presidential Mock Election on November 5th. Valid proof of identification was required from each student for voting eligibility. Congratulations to President Obama for his landslide victory and re-election!
Red Ribbon Week was celebrated the week of October 29th at KEYS Academy. Students and teachers signed their names on a red ribbon pledging to BE DRUG FREE! Activities included Red Day, Twin Day, Western Day, Super Hero Day, & Nerd Day.
Children from the Garden Daycare at KEYS Academy took their annual "Hall-O-Ween" stroll on October 31st. Students lined the hallways and greeted the little ones with smiles and treats.
Upperclass students participated in ROPEs activities on Friday, October 26th. The primary purpose of this event is to awaken students' teamwork qualities of leadership, trust, cooperation, communication, planning, and productivity. The JROTC from Harlingen High School assisted our students with activities which included Giant Skis, Zig-Zag, Spider Web, Toxic Waste Bucket, and Sherpa Walk.
Students celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month during the week of October 9th - 12th. Festivities included a Grito Contest, Pin the Tail on the Burro, and a Costume Contest.
