    Vernon Middle School Band attends Texas A&M Kingsville Jazz Festival

    The Vernon Middle School jazz band finished with the top prize at the 45th Annual Texas A&M University Kingsville Jazz Festival on Friday, March 23. They received the first place trophy for the middle school contest while also earning first in division Superior Rating and Superior Plaque for their Jazz Band.

    Princeton graduate, HCISD product returns to speak with students

    Standing in front of a classroom filled with Vernon Middle School seventh and eighth grade students, Liezet Cepeda shared her story of academic prowess in hopes that it would inspire the students to blossom into lifetime scholars. Cepeda, a product of Harlingen Consolidated Independent School District through Bonham Elementary School, Vernon and Harlingen High School, graduated from Princeton University in 2009. She took time from her busy schedule of taking pre-requisite courses for medical school and medical school applications to speak with students at Vernon in late September.

    Student leaders convene for first SAB meeting

    The Superintendent's Student Advisory Board met for the first time this school year on Tuesday at the Central Administration Building. The board, comprised of eighth grade students at Vela, Memorial, Vernon, Coakley and Gutierrez middle schools as well as seniors from Harlingen High School, Harlingen High School South, Early College High School and KEYS Academy.
