Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South have earned statewide recognition for excellence, both finishing in the top 40 among hundreds of 5A and 6A schools in Texas in the UIL Lone Star Cup standings.
Harlingen High School South ranked 22nd in 5A, and Harlingen High School ranked 37th in 6A.
The UIL Lone Star Cup honors the top high schools in Texas for outstanding overall performance in academics, athletics, and fine arts. Each year, one school in every UIL classification, from 1A to 6A, is named a winner.
Schools earn points by competing in a variety of UIL events, including Team Tennis, Cross Country, Marching Band, Military Marching Band, Volleyball, Robotics BEST, Robotics VEX, Football, Congress, Spirit, Swimming & Diving, Wrestling, Mariachi, Film, Basketball, Robotics FIRST, Soccer, Academics, One-Act Play, Theatrical Design, Track & Field, Golf, Tennis, Softball, and Baseball.
“We are incredibly proud of both Harlingen High School and Harlingen High School South,” said Superintendent Dr. Veronica Kortan. “Talent is universal. Opportunity is not. At HCISD, our students are thriving because they have access to strong programs, passionate educators, and meaningful opportunities to grow. Their success places us among the top-performing districts in the state.”
