Eligibility
Children who live two miles or more from their assigned school are eligible for bus transportation. The distance a student lives from the assigned school is determined by measuring from the curb at the front of the school to the curb in front of their home using the closest paved street distance. Hazardous areas are defined by the district and students inside these areas are provided transportation, as per School Board Policy.

Pick Up Time Service
Bus transportation makes every effort to arrive in a timely manner, however due to circumstances beyond our control, heavy traffic, short delays at stops, weather and breakdowns, we ask students to arrive at the bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Buses will load students and depart from the stop promptly. Regular buses do not wait for late students more than 3 minutes, as this will cause a delay in arriving at the student’s assigned school. All buses will wait 7 minutes at the school in the afternoon for students to board. Students are expected to proceed immediately to their assigned buses. Bus drivers are instructed not to stop or open the door for late students due to safety concerns, such as having students to close to moving bus wheels.

Daily Service Criteria
Regular transportation is scheduled to provide services to student riders. Bus stops that do not have riders for 3 days may be suspended temporarily for lack of ridership to conserve district resources. Infrequent riders should contact the Transportation Department stating their desire to ride when services are needed, if their bus stop has historically low ridership to verify stop time and location.

Route Design
Bus routes are designed to enhance student safety while maximizing vehicle efficiency. Stops are also created to minimize students walking in highly traveled roadways for long distances without sidewalks. Elementary students may be required to walk up to ¼ of a mile to a designated bus stop. Secondary students may be required to walk up to ½ of a mile to a designated bus stop. Stops are not placed in dead end streets in order to minimize bus accidents while backing up (Backing up is a very dangerous maneuver for a school bus). Stops are spread as far apart as criteria will allow in order to decrease the number of stops each bus will make on its route, thus minimizing riding time for the students. Bus routes are designed to limit students ride times to no more than 45 minutes one-way when possible. Late departures from schools and breakdowns are factors that will affect this time.

Please be aware that riding the bus is a privilege and not a mandatory requirement. Students not following the code of conduct may result in bus riding privileges being taken away.

3. DO NOT eat or drink on the bus.
4. KEEP the bus clean.
5. COOPERATE with and respect the bus driver.
6. DO NOT use tobacco.
7. DO NOT be destructive of the school bus.
8. STAY in your seat at all times.
9. KEEP heads, hands, and feet inside the bus.
10.THE BUS DRIVER IS AUTHORIZED TO ASSIGN SEATS.
