Coakley Middle School has been named a Texas School to Watch, placing the campus among just 70 schools statewide recognized for strong instructional practices, inclusive student supports, intentional leadership systems, and a campus culture focused on continuous growth.
The designation was celebrated during a campus gathering honoring staff for the daily work that has helped shape Coakley’s culture and success.
Principal Mrs. Elizabeth Minto-Bauer emphasized that the recognition belongs to the people who show up for students every day.
“This is a recognition and celebration of you,” Bauer said. “I am so, so proud of every single one of you. It’s a true testament to the heart for people that we have and the commitment to excellence in everything that we do.”
She also credited the campus theme of helping staff make intentional, consistent improvements.
“One degree of difference can make all the difference,” Bauer said. “Those small changes, day in and day out, add up to big wins. You come in every day, you give your absolute best effort, you love on kids, you love on each other, and you give it that extra degree.”
The Texas School to Watch designation reflects leadership practices that have been strengthened through the campus’s partnership with the Holdsworth Center, which is centered on collaboration, equity, and developing leaders at every level of an organization.
Superintendent Dr. Veronica Kortan said the recognition reflects a campus culture that is felt the moment you walk through the doors.
“Every single person on this campus is a true champion for kids,” said Dr. Kortan. “There’s just something special here, and it happens because of you. This is just the first of many celebrations.”
As a Texas School to Watch, Coakley will serve as a model campus, welcoming educators from across the state and nation to observe its practices, culture, and approach to student success.
Campus and district leaders agreed that the recognition honors the work already accomplished, while also signaling continued momentum ahead for Coakley Middle School.
