Q: How will student technology be distributed?

A: Technology devices and digital tools will be distributed directly through each student's home campus Harlingen High School, Harlingen South High School and Dr. Cano Freshman Academy.

 

 

 

Q: Who is providing professional development for teachers and students?

A: Professional development and instructional coaching will be provided by Dr. Jessica Hruska, Director of Innovative Learning and Dr. Juan Guillen lead administrator for the online Hybrid High School.

 

 

Q: Do Hybrid Learning Academy teachers qualify for the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA)?

A: Yes, teachers instructing in the Virtual Academy qualify for TIA.

 

 

Q: How will student counseling, testing, and Special Education (SPED) services be handled?

A: An assigned counselor will be located at each student's home campus. All required state testing (e.g., STAAR EOC) occurs at the home campus, and SPED accommodations will be available for eligible students.

 

 

ONBOARDING & ACADEMIC EXPECTATIONS Q&A

 

Q: What are the daily schedule and attendance expectations for students?

A: Students must participate daily within both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (independent) learning environments. Students follow the standard A Day / B Day calendar of comprehensive high schools and must adhere to all district and state attendance policies.

 

 

 

Q: Will there be an orientation session for newly accepted students?

A: Yes, accepted students will attend either an in-person or virtual orientation session.

 

 

Q: How does GPA and academic grading compare to traditional in-person learning?

A: The GPA policy, grading system, and diploma requirements for the Hybrid Learning Academy students are identical to those in traditional in-person settings.

 

 

Q: How will parents stay informed and connected throughout the school year?

A: Quarterly family celebrations and progress updates will be implemented to provide parents with regular program updates and student performance insights.

 

 

PARENTS & ENROLLMENT Q&A

 

Q: How do students enroll in the Hybrid Learning Academy?

A: Interested students must complete an official online application to determine eligibility and qualification for the Hybrid Learning Academy.

 

 

 

Q: How will students learn to navigate the online learning platforms?

A: Students receive comprehensive orientation and hands-on training on how to navigate Canvas and all daily Hybrid Learning Academy software programs.

 

 

Q: Is district transportation provided when students need to visit their home campus?

A: Yes. Transportation will be provided according to students' previously assigned bus routes. If a student does not currently have an assigned bus route, their case will be submitted to the HCISD Transportation Department to assign the proper bus number and route.
